When your heart wants closeness with Allah... but feels distant

and it's not lack of imaan

السلام عليكم friend,

There is a quiet struggle many Muslim women carry but rarely speak about.

They pray.
They make dua.
They try to stay consistent in their worship.

Yet internally, something feels… distant.

Not because they don’t believe.
Not because they don’t care.

But because their heart feels numb, heavy, or emotionally disconnected.

And often, this creates a lot of guilt.

They start wondering:

“What’s wrong with me?”
“Why don’t I feel what I used to feel?”
“Is my faith getting weaker?”

But in many cases, the issue is not a lack of faith.

Sometimes the heart is simply carrying emotional pain that hasn’t been processed yet.

Experiences like anxiety, chronic stress, past hurt, shame, or emotional overwhelm can quietly create internal barriers in the heart.

When the body and mind have been in survival mode for a long time, the heart can begin to protect itself by becoming emotionally numb.

This isn’t a spiritual failure.

It’s often the nervous system trying to cope with too much pressure for too long.

And when healing begins, something beautiful happens.

As the body starts to feel safe again, and emotional burdens are gently released, the heart begins to soften.

Presence in salah becomes easier.

Dua begins to feel more sincere.

The connection with Allah slowly becomes more grounded and real again.

This is the kind of healing work we focus on inside my 6-week faith-based healing intensive.

We work on healing at the level of the qalb (heart), the mind, and the nervous system, using guidance rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah alongside nervous system healing practices.

The goal is not simply to cope with anxiety or emotional pain, but to gently remove the internal barriers that make it difficult to feel calm, safe, and spiritually connected.

Applications for the next cohort are currently open, and because the group is intentionally small (maximum 5 women), I speak with each applicant briefly first.

If you feel that anxiety, emotional pain, or past experiences may be affecting your inner peace or connection with Allah, you are welcome to apply.

And I’m curious, have you ever experienced moments where your heart wanted closeness with Allah, but emotionally it felt difficult to reach?

You’re welcome to simply reply and share.

With love and duas

Noorain
