The Day Allah Made a Way Through the Sea

the day of Ashura

السلام عليكم friend,

As Ashura approaches, I find myself reflecting on the story of Musa (AS) in a very different way this year.

I've heard the story countless times growing up.

Musa (AS) standing before the sea.

Firawn and his army behind him.

The sea in front of him.

No obvious escape.

No visible solution.

Yet this year, I couldn't stop thinking about what that moment must have actually felt like.

Because we often read the story knowing the ending.

We know Allah will save him.

We know the sea will part.

We know the miracle is coming.

But Musa (AS) didn't know that.

He still had to stand there in the uncertainty.

He still had to trust Allah before he saw the path.

And perhaps that's where many of us find ourselves today.

Not standing before a sea.

But standing before something that feels impossible.

A problem that has lasted longer than we expected.

A situation we don't know how to fix.

A dream that feels far away.

A prayer we've been making for months or years.

An anxiety that keeps returning.

A chapter of life that feels unclear.

Sometimes we think faith means never feeling uncertain.

But the stories of the Prophets teach us something different.

Faith isn't the absence of uncertainty.

Faith is continuing to trust Allah while standing inside it.

The miracle of Ashura wasn't simply that the sea parted.

The miracle was that Musa (AS) trusted Allah before it did.

He moved forward before he could see the way.

And that is what I keep reminding myself of lately.

Not every answer has to be visible today.

Not every prayer has to be answered immediately.

Not every path has to be clear before we take the next step.

Sometimes our job is simply to keep walking toward Allah and trust that He sees what we cannot.

Ashura is also a day of immense mercy.

The Prophet ﷺ told us that fasting the Day of Ashura expiates the sins of the previous year.

Think about that for a moment.

An entire year of minor sins forgiven through a single day of fasting by the mercy of Allah.

How generous is our Lord.

How often He gives us opportunities to return to Him.

How often He opens doors that we never deserved.

This Ashura, alongside fasting, make dua for the things you have almost given up hope on.

The things only Allah knows about.

The prayers that still live quietly in your heart.

If there is one thing I hope you carry with you into Ashura, it is this:

The Allah who parted the sea for Musa (AS) is the same Allah you are making dua to today.

Never underestimate what Allah can change.

May Allah accept our fasting, forgive our shortcomings, bring ease to our hardships, and grant us the ability to trust Him even when we cannot yet see the path ahead.

With love and duas,

Noorain
