The 6 lies keeping Muslims stuck
and they may keep you stuck in the same place next year

السلام عليكم friend,
A question for you:
What if the biggest thing keeping you stuck isn't your circumstances...
But the beliefs you've accepted as truth?
Sometimes we don't need a lack of knowledge.
We need to challenge the stories we keep repeating.
Here are 6 lies that quietly keep Muslims stuck:
Lie #1: "I'll start when I feel motivated."
We often wait for the perfect feeling before we take action.
But motivation is temporary.
Discipline is what carries you when emotions change.
Think about salah.
You don't pray only on the days you feel spiritually motivated.
You pray because Allah is worthy of worship.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if they are few."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
Small consistent actions transform your life.
Don't wait until you feel ready.
Start, and let consistency shape you.
Lie #2: "I'll start after Ramadan."
Then it's after Eid.
Then after the holidays.
Then next Monday.
Then next month.
The problem isn't always the timing.
Sometimes it's that we keep postponing the person we want to become.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before your busyness, and your life before your death."
(reported in al-Hakim; widely cited)
Your time is a gift from Allah.
Don't keep delaying what you know you need to do.
Allah gave you today.
Use it.
Lie #3: "I'm too busy."
We all have responsibilities.
But sometimes the problem isn't a lack of time.
It's a lack of intention with our time.
Hours disappear into things that don't move us forward.
Yet we struggle to give a few minutes to what nourishes our soul.
Allah says:
"By time, indeed mankind is in loss, except those who believe and do righteous deeds..."
(Qur'an 103:1-3)
Time is not just something you spend.
It's something you are accountable for.
Lie #4: "Someone else is already doing it."
Someone else has your dream.
Someone else has your idea.
Someone else is already creating, teaching, building, serving.
But they are not you.
Allah created you with your own experiences, strengths, and story.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"The most beloved of people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people."
(reported in al-Tabarani; grading varies)
Your contribution doesn't need to look like someone else's.
Serve with what Allah has given you.
Lie #5: "I need everything to be perfect first."
Perfectionism can look like high standards.
But sometimes it's fear disguised as excellence.
Islam does not ask you to be perfect before you begin.
It asks you to strive.
Allah loves those who return to Him, improve, and keep moving forward.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"All of the children of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."
(Jami' at-Tirmidhi)
Your mistakes do not disqualify you from doing good.
Begin.
Learn.
Improve.
Lie #6: "This is just who I am."
This might be the most dangerous lie.
Because it removes hope.
"I've always been lazy."
"I've always been inconsistent."
"I'll never change."
But Islam is built on transformation.
Look at the companions.
They weren't born extraordinary.
'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) before Islam was not the same man after Islam.
Allah transformed ordinary people into people who changed history.
Allah says:
"Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."
(Qur'an 13:11)
Your past explains you.
It does not define you.
The biggest thing keeping you stuck might not be your circumstances.
It might be the story you keep repeating.
So ask yourself:
Which lie have I been believing?
And what would happen if you replaced it with trust in Allah and sincere action?
